The visiting youth from River Community Church outside Baton Rouge, Louisiana, enjoyed their hot, sunny week of urban ministry at First Presbyterian, June 23-27. They particularly loved serving lunch at the Stewpot. Serving milk and water to the clients was always a coveted job because so many of the youth wanted to interact with the clients. “The Stewpot changed my view of homelessness and gave me a new outlook,” said Jane Slatton, a sophomore in high school and a newcomer to the program. Laura Vandal, another youth, said “I loved learning and building relationships with them” when asked about her experience with the clients.
Overall, it was an exciting and informative week, which culminated in accompanying the Summer Day Camp to their field trip at Pizza Planet.
