The Stewpot Meal Service
In May 2008 The Stewpot became the partner agency for meal services at The Bridge Homeless Assistance Center, just three blocks south of The Stewpot. While The Stewpot’s meal service moved to The Bridge, all other client services for the homeless continue to be provided at The Stewpot.
The dining room at The Bridge is called the Second Chance Café. The Stewpot is currently serving three meals a day, seven days a week to more than 700 people per meal in the Second Chance Café - with the assistance of over 1300 wonderful volunteers a month! Volunteers dish up a delicious, nutritious meal prepared by the Second Chance Cafe Kitchen staff served cafeteria style. Volunteers also pour beverages for our guests once they are seated Meals are served at the following times:
• Breakfast 7:00 – 8:30 am
• Lunch 11:30 – 1:00 pm
• Dinner 6:00 – 7:00 pm
Volunteers are requested to arrive 30 minutes early for orientation and preparation. ALL meal service volunteers MUST be prescheduled to serve. No drop-ins, please!
Youth volunteers MUST be 14 or older and accompanied by a parent or youth group leader – no exceptions. The adult must call/e-mail to schedule the youth volunteer service commitment.
