Medical & Dental
Accessible health care is one of the most urgent needs facing today’s homeless population. In addition to hosting agency outreach clinics for area mental health providers, The Stewpot has more extensive program offering for dental and medical needs.
In 1988, a partnership between The Stewpot and Community Dental Care, Inc. was established, resulting in what is today three fully equipped dental operations for primary care dental needs, as well as second phase dental care for dentures and partial prosthetics. If you need dental care, come to The Stewpot at 8 am weekdays with an approved residency letter of referral from a qualified night shelter or transitional housing program.
In 1999, Karen and Elgin Ware established a volunteer medical outreach which has served more than 10,000 patient visits. Volunteerism complements the work of Parkland Hospital’s homeless outreach program. Medical care is available by signing up at the front desk during clinic hours.
