Nestled in the Lakewood neighborhood in east Dallas sits Northridge Presbyterian Church – an organization that considers its greatest responsibility to “share God’s love by ‘serving others’, seeking peace and justice, and responding with the utmost compassion and care for the world” around them. Part of their mission includes the understanding that “time spent in service to others can be translated into blessings, leading to a disproportionate impact for good.”
For numerous years, Northridge has consistently participated in monthly volunteer opportunities at The Stewpot. Through special drives, they’ve enthusiastically collected clothing and food to support Stewpot clients. Youth of the church have assisted with the garden program. And they’ve been longtime supporters of The Stewpot Art Program.
Ray Chavez, returning chair of the NPC Mission Committee, has hosted Stewpot art and artists onsite at Northridge a few times over the last 10 years. He recounts the impact of the personal journeys and artworks of Stewpot artists, Vellietta Rogers and Leon Pollard. Many of their artworks bring joy and are displayed prominently in people’s homes, including Ray’s.
For anyone looking for a volunteer opportunity, Chavez says, “the pure joy and personal sense of serving others that Northridge volunteers gain is the single biggest reward. Greeting the clients with a smile and meal can’t be matched and is a personal blessing to everyone involved.”
Thank you, Northridge, for all you do!
